Based in Hertfordshire, Make History! stages costumed, interactive events in schools.
Saxons
Begin by helping us prepare for a chieftain's burial, just as in the epic poem Beowulf. Hear how Anglo Saxon actually sounded as you make his golden funeral banner. Experience daily life in a Saxon village - even readying yourselves against Viking attack! Finally relax with some stories and learn some riddles to remind yourselves of your day spent as Anglo Saxons.
Vikings
Experience life in a Scandinavian settlement by making music and learning a quern stone chant. Then board a longship to go 'a-Viking' to new lands, listening to tales of gods and heroes as you sail. Finally weave some Viking braid and make Thor's hammers as good luck charms for your conquest!
Normans
The aftermath of 1066. What was it like to survive in a besieged castle? You must start with a survey for the Domesday Book. Daily life must go on, and you will keep your spirits up by making your own entertainment. But you must also practise battle tactics, and prepare medicine and supplies for the knights!
Celtic Iron Age
What was it like to live in the Iron Age, on the brink of the Roman invasion of Britain? Experience for yourself the hard graft of daily life, the satisfaction of making things to use, wear and eat, and the pleasure of listening to stories by the fire at the end of the day.
History for Early Years
Ancient crafts: A session for Foundation Stage children to encourage a genuine feel for history. Work, learn and play like people did long ago with hands-on activities such as carding and spinning fleece, simple weaving, felting, beading, claywork and grinding herbs.
Each of the Make History! team members has CRB certification, and has worked on a regular basis with children of all ages and abilities.
